Learning the Language Update: Chapter Two

I have successfully completed the second unit in my Italian language book. It has been a challenge, to say the least, but I am doing my best to retain what I have learned thus far.

Italian Children's Books
Some of the books I picked up at my library.

As I mentioned in my previous post, I plan on going through every chapter twice to try and get it to stick as much as possible.

I’m also going back to an idea I had as a child. I used to bring home books in Italian from the children’s section of my town library. I would show them to my Grandmother and ask her to read them to me. She always refused, reminding me I am an American and I should speak English. I am once again, bringing home books from the children’s section of my local library and plan to use them as supplements to my other Italian language books. It is just as important to me to be able to read Italian as it is to speak Italian. As I continue to look for historical documents associated with my family’s genealogy, I’m sure it will become an increasing important tool to have in my toolbox.

Well, my Grandma is gone almost 21 years now and not a day goes by that I don’t think about her and miss her terribly. I doubt she would approve I am trying again to learn the Mother Tongue of my family, but it is incredibly important to me. I hope she will look down on me from her place in Heaven and understand, along with her eye roll I’m sure she is sending.
